6 dead, several injured in building collapse in Mumbai, search operation still in process.

Six people died, several others reportedly injured in a building collapse in the Fort area of Mumbai, after heavy rains lashed the city on Thursday, whilst the search operation was still in process, civic authorities said on Friday morning.

Mumbai: Six people died, several others reportedly injured in a building collapse in the Fort area of Mumbai, after heavy rains lashed the city on Thursday, whilst the search operation was still in process, civic authorities said on Friday morning.

Two people were killed after a corner portion of six floor Bhanushali building collapsed in the Fort area around 4.45 pm on Thursday. Soon after, three people rescued from the site, were declared dead at the J J hospital at midnight on Thursday.

A 62 year old woman, taken out from the debris and rushed to the J J hospital, was declared dead on arrival on Friday morning, an official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said.

Four fire engines, a rescue van and ambulances were rushed to the site of incidence, where 15 people were rescued from the debris, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation added.

The six deceased were identified as Kusum Gupta (45), Jotsna Gupta (50), and Padmalal Gupta (50), Kiran Mishra (35), Maniben Fariya (62) and an unidentified women aged 62 years.
