Andhra Pradesh: Two killed, four injured in a benzene gas leak at Sainor Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., a pharmaceutical company, located in the suburbs of Paravada in Vishakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday.

“The situation is under control now. Two persons who died were workers and were present at the leakage site [at the time of the incident]. Gas has not spread anywhere else,” ANI quoted senior police officer, Uday Kumar.

The deceased have been identified as Ragi Narendra and Gowri Shankar, while those injured are being treated at the King George Hospital. The condition of one of them is said to be critical.

The incident was reported at 11:30pm, on Monday. Leakage occurred whilst filling of benzene gas in tank, officials said. Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is looking into the matter, and the factory has been shut as a precautionary measure. 

“Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has enquired about the accident that occurred due to leakage at 11.30 PM last night. Factory was shut down immediately as a precautionary measure,” said Andhra Pradesh CM’s Office 

This is the second incident reported at the pharma unit. Earlier two people were killed in a reactor blast.
