Beti Bachao Beti Padhao – Save the Girl Child and Educate the Girl Child – is a national schema that has been purposely launched to address the issue of the declining percentage of girls in society as well as empower the girl child in the country.
This schema was successfully launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22, 2015, in Panipat and Haryana.

Sex-selective abortions or infanticide have resulted in a sharp decline in the percentage of girls born unlike males in some states in India. The ultrasound technology allowed pregnant women and their families to know the sex of the fetuses early in pregnancy. Discrimination against young girls, for several reasons, has combined with technology to lead to an increase in abortions of fetuses identified as females during an ultrasound exam.

This trend was first observed when the 1991 national census results were published and was confirmed to be a problem that worsened when the 2001 national census resulted released. The decline in the female population in some Indian states continues to worsen, as the 2011 national census results showed. That this trend is more evident in the relatively prosperous regions of India. The dowry system in India is often blamed. The expectation that girls will have to present a large dowry in order to get married is often cited as a major cause of the problem. The pressure of fathers to provide large dowries for their daughters is most intense in prosperous states where high standards of living and modern consumerism are prevalent in Indian society.

Female feticide rates are increasing in Madhya Pradesh. The lives birth rate reached 932 girls per 1,000 boys in 2001 and decreased to 918 by 2011. It is expected that if this trend continues by 2021 the number of girls will drop below 900 per 1,000 boys.
The BBBP scheme aims to educate people about how important is the education for the girl child in the Indian community in addition to making some positive changes in people’s mentality towards the girl child.
Some Indian people have a very rude mentality about the girl child, they think that girls are a load in their lives that only need to take the whole life from their fathers or husbands and never give. But it’s not true that girls lodge almost half of the world’s population, so they have half the responsibility for the existence of life on Earth. And less essential to the child human community is the thrill of having life on Earth where there are no women, there will be no rebirth.

The continuous decline in the ratio of the girl child to every child resolves this issue very good. Thus, this scheme was launched by taking the prevention of sex determination, the killing of fetuses, saving the child, guaranteeing the safety of the girl child, as well as providing them with a quality education.

The plan district data protection officer will be contractually responsible for implementing the schema. In agreement with the Ministry of Health and Education and Panchayati Raj Ministry, the scheme will be carried out through ICDS/MSK/DLCW stage at the region, group and village levels.
BBBP scheme is facing some difficulty to gain push force such as orthodox rituals like female foeticide, Sati, child marriage and domestic abuse obstruct the due execution of this scheme in addition to some social abuses.
The government machinery and the police are however to get the magnitude of women atrocities seriously. This also weakens the effective implementation of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme. The mindset of people remains conservative besides the numerous campaigns spreading awareness among people. The mindset needs civic body support to achieve the objectives of the scheme. The Dowry system is the main obstacles in the successful implementation and impact of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.
