Following the announcement of vaccination program for citizens above 18 years of age after much debates and discussions, the Central government officially announced the date and time for beginning of registration.

Aarogya Setu’s Twitter handle made a tweet today morning at 07:50 A.M saying that registration of vaccines for citizens above 18 will begin on April 28th, 2021 at 04:00 P.M (16:00) through CoWIN portal, Aarogya Setu app and the UMANG app. Once registrations are made, appointments will be fixed at local state government or private centres nearby from May 1st.

Earlier, the central government informed that vaccinations for 18+ will begin from April 28th, 2021 but did not specify the time from when the registrations will begin. So, many people have been trying to register themselves since 12:00 A.M.

Currently, two vaccines are being administered to the populations. One is the AstraZeneca – Serum Institute of India’s Covishield and the other is Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin. Recently, Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine has also been given emergency use authorisation by the Indian government and will be soon available in India, post-May month.

In India, Phase I vaccinations begin from January targeting to inoculate the frontline health care workers first. Following that, the Phase II of vaccination begin at March 1st targeting people of age 45 and 60 above to inoculate. Notably, PM Modi was the first citizen to get vaccinated under the Phase II.
