Five drown while taking selfie in Kalmandvi waterfall, Palghar

Five men drowned in Kalmandvi Waterfalls near Jawhar, in Palghar district of Maharashtra, while taking a selfie, police said on Friday.

Palghar: Five men drowned in Kalmandvi Waterfalls near Jawhar, in Palghar district of Maharashtra, while taking a selfie, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, when a group of 13 men visited the waterfall located on the outskirts of Jawhar, Vivekanand Kadam, district disaster control room head said.

Two men slipped and fell in the waterfall while taking a selfie, three others lunged into rescue them, he said, adding that all five of them drowned in the process.

The bodies of the deceased were taken out by a team of National Disaster Rescue Force late in the evening, the official said.

The deceased have been identified as Devendra Wagh, age 28,  Pratamesh Chavan, age 20, Devendra Faltankar, age 19, Nimesh Patil, age 28, and Rinku Bhoir, age 22, he added.

A case of accidental death was filed and the bodies were sent for autopsy, a police official said.
