Technology News: Google has now launched its new product, News Showcase that helps publishers share expertise and editorial voice while helping readers get a deep dive into their news stories. The project was launched by Google last October to support and sustain quality journalism.
Brad Bender, vice president, product management said that the news showcase provides customizable news space for publishers in Google News and Discover. He said the panel templates are updated to provide deep context into news stories, with making it easier for publishers to recognize the type of personalized contents users wish for.
New Showcase directs users and readers to the publishers’ website to help readers and publishers develop a deeper relationship. The News Showcase will also display content that is available once readers pay to their publishers a subscription fee.
The News Showcase is live only in select countries as of now like in U.S and Australia where Google has a made a deal with over 700 news publication companies. In India, currently 30 publishers are in deal with Google in English and Hindi languages and will soon sign-up deals with other language publications.
Bender says that News Showcase is potential asset built for the future of Journalism and New Media in the world. The idea for News Showcase is to display content on the panel that is otherwise meant to be exclusive for the publishers’ paid readers. And, this in turn encourages users to think about paying publishers to get access to much more quality news stories.
