Govt gives green signal to go ahead with 5G trials, No Chinese Companies included

Soon telecom companies like the Bharti Airtel, Reliance, JioInfocomm, Vodafone-Idea and MTNL will start their 5G trials to cover rural, semi-urban and urban areas of the country properly.

Gadget Insights:The Telecom department gave a green signal to telecom companies to go ahead with 5G technology and spectrum trials. Soon telecom companies like the Bharti Airtel, Reliance, JioInfocomm, Vodafone-Idea and MTNL will start their 5G trials to cover rural, semi-urban and urban areas of the country properly.

Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, C-DOT and Reliance Jio are some of the indigenous technology developers that the telecom department has approved to conduct 5G trial. Notably, Chinese companies in India were not called or approved to take part in the new 5G trials.

Though at first, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone-Idea proposed to carry on the trials with Huawei’s tech infrastructures, they later submitted applications to proceed with the trials without any much support from Chinese tech companies. The Telecom Service Providers have teamed with technology developers in the country to conduct the trials.

The decision to leave out Chinese tech companies from taking part in the trials shows us that any Chinese tech company might not be involved later in the future in rolling out 5G technology in India. The duration of the trials is totally six months and an extra two months in advance to procure and set up tech infrastructure in the country for testing.

The telecom operators are allowed to conduct their trials in their existing spectrums like 800Mhz, 900Mhz, 1800Mhz and 2500Mhz.
