New Delhi: The biggest single day surge of 34,956 news infections and 687 deaths were recorded in India, on Friday, pushing the poll to 10 lakh coronavirus cases, shows the figures from the Union Health Ministry.
The government data put total cases recorded in the country at 1,003,832 with 25,602 deaths. Over 6.35 lakh people, i.e., 63.34 percent of the patients have recovered until now.
With the cases increasing steadily, lockdown are being re-imposed in several parts of the country after the ease in lockdown in recent weeks as officials hoped the outbreak was under control.
Maharashtra continues to remain the worst hit state of the country, followed by Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana.
Maharashtra, on Thursday, recorded 8,641 new Coronavirus cases with 1,476 of the cases being recorded in Mumbai. In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, 266 coronavirus deaths were reported, with 56 of them taking place in Mumbai. Maharashtra has a death rate of 3.94 percent while the positive rate is 19.65 percent.
