India successfully tested Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) : DRDO

DRDO which is Research and Development wing of Ministry of Defence, In an historic Mission today successfully launched Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV).

DRDO in a tweet wrote,” DRDO with this mission, has demonstrated capabilities for highly complex technology that will serve as the building block for NextGen hypersonic vehicle in partnership with the industry.”

Defence Ministry Rajnath Singh also congratulated DRDO in his tweet and said,” I congratulate DRDO on this landmark achievement towards realizing PM’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. I spoke to the scientists associated with the project and congratulated them on this great achievement. India is proud of them.

Rajnath Singh further said that with the successful HSTDV flight test, using the indigenously developed scramjet propulsion system, all critical technologies have now been established to progress to the next phase.

The test of the HSTDV, designed to cruise at Mach 6 speed with the scramjet engine, was conducted from the Dr Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast at 11.03 am. “It met all the laid down technical parameters,” said a scientist.

The HSTDV is an unmanned scramjet demonstration aircraft for hypersonic speed flight. It is being developed as a carrier vehicle for hypersonic and long-range cruise missiles, and will have multiple civilian applications including the launching of small satellites at low cost. The HSTDV program is run by the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation.
