Mumbai: On repeated appeals made by Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, Railways have resumed local trains services in Mumbai on Monday, said an official.

The services have been resumed only for the state government employees who are engaged in “essential services”, he added. Against a seating capacity to accommodate 1200, only 700 will be allowed to per train.

“Western Railway have decided to resume their selected suburban services over WR w.e.f. Monday, 15th June, 2020 with defined protocol & SOP, only for movement of essential staff as identified by the State Government,” tweeted Central and Western Railways.
“Essential staff as identified by the state government who are traveling by selected suburban trains are requested to travel with valid tickets to avoid inconvenience,” a joint statement read.
