Mumbai: Weather officials said that Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai received one of the heaviest showers in last 24 hours, of this monsoon and more rainfall is likely in the city and suburbs.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that Mumbai and its neighboring areas received a 280 mm of precipitation. This caused waterlogging at many places in the city, road traffic and disrupting rail.
“Mumbai received one of the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours,” KS Hosalikar, senior official of IMD Mumbai said in his tweet.
The IMD said that the fourth highest rainfall in Mumbai’s history that is over 273 mm rain during the 24-hour period received by the Santacruz observatory on Wednesday. According to the weather bureau, in 1974, Santacruz observatory reported 318 mm rainfall, 312 mm on September 23, 1993 and 303 mm on September 20, 2017.
