The Antiguan media reports claimed that Mehul Choksi is currently under the custody of Central Investigation Department (CID) in Dominica. Choksi had fled India after being wanted in a Rs. 13,500 crores Punjab National Bank loan scam. The businessman has been ever since staying in the tiny Caribbean nation Antigua and Barbuda for three years since January 2018.

Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne told the media that he has no reliable information on Choksi’s whereabouts. The Prime Minister in his parliament said in a statement that the country’s authorities will be collaborating with Indian government, governments of neighboring countries as well as international police in tracking Choksi.

Apparently, the business man has two cases against him for extradition and revocation of citizenship in the country as well, for which he had sought a celebrated lawyer from London to represent his case, that showed his willingness to stay in the country and contest his cases.

Browne said that nobody did contemplate anything that the fugitive businessman would flee the country and it is very likely that he is still there. Police and intelligence agencies are taking efforts to locate Choksi. He also said that there is no chance he could have gone to Cuba as there was no flight recorded with Choksi in as a passenger.

The only option left was to get out through a boat. Choksi was last seen in a car on Sunday and the police recovered the car but not with Choksi in it. The Antiguan Police had filed a missing person report on Monday with the photograph of the businessman, asking for information on the person from the public as well.

The Missing Person Report read that 62-year-old Mehul Choksi from Jolly Harbor is missing and was last seen on 23-05-2021, Sunday. Antiguanewsroom, a local media company, reported that the businessman was last seen driving around the southern island on Sunday.
