In this virtual summit, the Prime Minister’s of the two countries inaugurated the Chilahati-Haldibari rail link. This railway line was inaugurated after nearly 55 years.
India and Bangladesh agreed to resume a total of six railway connections issued before 1965. Out of which, besides Haldibari-Chilhati rail link, five more are included.
There will be a total of 4 rail links connecting Bangladesh with West Bengal, Radhikapur (India) – Birol (Bangladesh), Petrapol (India) – Benapole (Bangladesh), Gede (India – Darshan) are Bangladesh) and Singhabad (India) – Rohanpur (Bangladesh).
The Prime Minister of the two countries also issued a commemorative postage stamp at the virtual summit. At the same time, the Prime Minister Modi said that Bangladesh is an important pillar of our ‘Neighborhood First’ policy.
He said that strengthening relations with Bangladesh is a priority for me from day one, while Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also said during the virtual summit with PM Modi that the way your (India) government fought COVID-19, I must applaud you for that.
At the same time, PM Modi said that India and Bangladesh have had good cooperation in the Corona era, both of them will remain together in the work of the vaccine. PM Modi said that both countries are emphasizing on connectivity, which shows our friendship.
Sheikh Hasina said that both countries have come closer during the Coronavirus period, mutual relations between people of both countries have also strengthened. Both countries have started several new connectivity works in this year.
