Shaniwar Wada & other Archaeological Sites, monuments reopened in Pune

After almost 9 months of lockdown, Pune’s most visited places like Shaniwar wada, Pataleshwar Caves, Aga Khan Palace, etc. are now being reopened for the people.

Pune News : After almost 9 months of lockdown, Pune’s most visited places like Shaniwar wada, Pataleshwar Caves, Aga Khan Palace, etc. are now being reopened for the people. All these sites will operate under Archaeological Survey of India( ASI).

These sites were reopened from Wednesday and however museums in the Pune city have not opened on Wednesday.

“Yesterday, we sanitized the Shaniwarwada premises. The sanitizer stands are kept at the entrance,” said Ishwar Kawade, the officer in charge of Shaniwar wada from ASI.

“Since the site has opened this morning, we have seen a good response from people. The number of visitors may shoot up tomorrow. We had a digital payment option today. We may start a ticket counter from tomorrow,” said Ishwar Kawade.

Shaniwar wada welcomes almost 2,500 to 3,000 visitors each day and the number goes up to 5,000 on holidays. However all the safety protocols are kept in mind. On the very first day of reopening the excitement and enthusiasm were seen among people.

There are also other famous sites to visit in Pune, among which there is Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, however it was not operational on Wednesday.

Sudhanva Hari Ranade, the director of the museum said, “We still are waiting for the opening order copy. We are focusing on the physical cleaning of the entire premise. Also, the cleaning of artefacts and the museum’s collection is going on. It will take some time. The museum has been closed from March 17. Some technical things (like lights and all) have to be looked after. Some efforts have to be taken to bring the museum to its normal status”.
