INDIA NEWS: The Pune-based businessman, CEO and the man of the hour Adar Poonawalla is now entitled to receive a Y category security detail from the Union Home Ministry. The UHM decided to endow Adar Poonawalla with a security detail after careful assessment of threats in detail.
A ‘Y’ category security detail involves the total of an eleven armed personnel in presence around the individual, two of them who are commandoes and the other eight who are ordinary policemen.
Recently Adar Poonawalla has come under criticism as Serum Institute of India announced its decision to increase the price of its vaccines per dose from Rs.150 to Rs.400. The price rise has sparked much debate among politicians and opposition politicians calling for “one vaccine, one price”.

The SII CEO had already made it clear that the subsidized rate to the government was only for a limited period of time. In an interaction with NDTV, Adar Poonawalla said that the average price has always been around $20 (Rs.1,500), but on the request of government we are selling them in a subsidized rate.
He also said that the company is no way making any kinds of super-profits out of the current price they are selling. Later, Adar Poonawalla himself tweeted that the price will be dropped from Rs.400 to Rs.300 for philanthropic reasons and he expects this will motivate vaccinations to happen more and faster.
