Tamil Nadu’s DMK party releases its list of competing candidates in upcoming Assembly Elections

DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) leader M.K Stalin announced his party’s list of competing candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. M.K Stalin’s DMK is set to compete in 173 of 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. DMK has been the opposition party of AIADMK since the party won the Assembly elections in 2011.

M.K Stalin’s DMK is set to compete in 173 of 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. DMK has been the opposition party of AIADMK since the party won the Assembly elections in 2011.

 Party president M K Stalin is seeking a third term to contest from the Kolathur constituency. He will file his nomination on March 15th. His son actor and politician Udhayanidhi Stalin is making his electoral debut from the Chepauk-Triplicane constituency. The constituency was previously contested by his grandfather, late M Karunanidhi for three straight terms since 1996.

DMK has retained 79 sitting MLAs Durai Murugan, K N Nehru, K Ponmudi, MRK Panneerselvam, P Geetha Jeevan and Poongothai Aladi Aruna who are all former ministers, besides legislators TRB Raja, Anitha Radhakrishnan, SR Raja, M Subramanian and R Sakkarapani. DMK is in alliance with the Indian National Congress.

Other significant parties in the alliance include MDMK, VCK and other smaller Left-leaning parties in Tamil Nadu. DMK’s T. Sampathkumar will compete against TN CM Edappadi K. Pazhaniswamy from Edappadi constituency in Salem district, while Thanga Tamilselvan will compete against deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam in Bodinayakanur constituency in Theni district.
