U.S Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin arrives in India; meets NSA Chief Ajit Doval and PM Narendra Modi

U.S Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III arrived in India on Friday as a part of a three-nation tour to address key challenges in the relationship between U.S and the Indo-Pacific region.

U.S Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III arrived in India on Friday as a part of a three-nation tour to address key challenges in the relationship between U.S and the Indo-Pacific region. Secretary Lloyd Austin visited and discussed with key leaders in Japan and South Korea previously before visiting India.

Upon his arrival in India, he first met India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Secretary Lloyd Austin III tweeted that “Great meeting with NSA Doval last night. The breadth of collaboration b/w our 2 nations reflects the significance of our major defence partnership as we work together to address the most pressing challenges facing the Indo-Pacific region,”

His recent tour to the three nations including India, is seen as the new Biden administration’s efforts to reach to key allies in the map, to renew and to repair these key friendships ahead of facing new global challenges. PM Modi has said that he welcomes Secretary Austin’s visit to India and the warm relationship that exists between both the countries.

The PMO said that PM Modi has outlined his vision for a strategic partnership between U.S and India and an emphasis on the bilateral defence co-operation is much needed now. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh tweete that “Mr. Austin. Your visit to India is definitely going to further deepen the cooperation and partnership between India and the United States. Looking forward to our meeting tomorrow”.

Top U.S lawmakers have also appreciated U.S Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s visit to India. Leading voices in U.S’ parliament had encouraged Austin to maintain the strategic partnership between India and U.S as India is the key player to deter and contain growing Chinese aggression in the world.

Secretary Lloyd Austin is the first African-American in the U.S to become the Secretary of Defense. Lloyd Austin is four-star general and has served as a Colonel in many wars like in Afghanistan and in Iraq.
